Tactile Art Program

Tactile Art Program

A young boy works on his artwork. We know that blind children are just as creative and interested in art as their sighted peers. Through our tactile art program, we have distributed more than one-hundred tactile art and drawing kits to children across the country.

Due to the great positive response to this program, we no longer have any tactile art or tactile drawing kits available. Please stay tuned for the next phase of the program.

History of the Program

The American Action Fund for Blind Children and Adults is committed to helping young blind children learn that they can participate in art and be as creative and expressive as their sighted peers.

Blind children often are not exposed to art or tactile representations. Comprehending tactile representations is a learned process for blind children, as it is for all children and adults. We believe starting that learning process as early as possible will significantly help develop a child’s creativity and imagination.

A young girl proudly holds up her tactile art.We are leaving the information about the tactile art kit and the tactile drawing kit available here on this webpage so that parents, teachers, grandparents, and friends will know what was provided in both of these kits.

The tactile art kit included:

  • Sensational Blackboard
  • Substrate Materials (sandpaper, animal skin rubbins plats, emobssed grid paper, and plastic canvas)
  • Tools (print/Braille ruler, rounded scissors, basic shapes templates, French curve templates, and a glue stick)
  • Papers (Braille paper, parchment paper, copy paper, tracing paper, thermoform paper, tactile drawing film, and tactile pictures)
  • Sculpture Material (Model Magic)

Testimonials

"Thank you so much for sending us the tactile art materials! We love the drawing templates, scented crayons, and puffy stickers. My youngest son Colton, was born blind with Leber's Congential Amerousis. Colton is three years old and has an older brother Caleb, who is five."

"What I love most about the art kit is it allows me to help Colton to create fun art projects, alongside his sighted brother. The inTact Sketchpad is incredible and a very well thought out product. Both my boys love the creations they have made so far. I've also been able to share some of our art materials with Colton's daycare to help them better accommodate art projects alongside his peers."
